Robin Herbst - BIO

Robin Herbst

Robin Herbst is an independent tax analyst for Northwest Airlines, Inc. and 3M Company. For the last eleven years, she has worked specifically on NWA's federal and state/city audits. This project utilized Herbst's strong communication skills in coordinating team members. She has acted as the spokesperson of the income tax team and facilitated conversations between all involved parties at various levels of management. These audits have required Herbst to provide the IRS and state jurisdictions with clear and concise letters, which helped hone her writing skills. While this correspondence needed precision and close attention to facts and details, it also allowed Herbst to expand her PR skills to smooth over the tension that goes hand-in-hand with tax audits.

Herbst grew up in Edina, Minnesota, a well-to-do suburb of Minneapolis. Although Herbst's father was a successful general surgeon, her family lived modestly and was never familiar with that "new car smell." Herbst was also strongly influenced by her grandmother who lived through the Depression, taking on many of her tendencies, such as reusing tissues, bags, and tin foil. Food is never wasted in the Herbst household.

Within the past two decades, Herbst and her husband, Dean, have lived well on a fixed budget. They are wise to invest in smart purchases, save for retirement, and live within their means. These tips have long been preached to the general public, but many of Herbst's associates wonder if her cheapness has lead to her success. Although it's never been documented, the savings Herbst has accumulated from wise usage of Kleenex alone may have paid for the couple's last automobile purchase.
